Airtel Africa secured the Best in Technology for Development honor at the 2025 SERAS awards in Lagos. This recognition highlights the telecom operator’s strategic focus on bridging the digital divide through its foundation’s projects. The award specifically commends initiatives that equip Nigerians with skills for the digital economy.

Foundation Programs Target Education and Skills

The Airtel Africa Foundation’s work formed the basis for the award. Notably, it supports the federal government’s 3MTT program. This initiative has trained 25,000 young Nigerians across dozens of local government areas. Furthermore, a partnership with UNICEF under the Reimagine Education initiative has connected hundreds of thousands of public school pupils to digital learning platforms.

The foundation also runs a university scholarship program, currently supporting 100 students in tertiary institutions. These efforts represent a multi-faceted approach to fostering digital literacy and access.

Focus on Sustainable Digital Empowerment

The award underscores a corporate strategy that views technology as a primary tool for social development. By investing in education and skills training, Airtel aims to create a more inclusive digital landscape. Consequently, these programs are designed to prepare young Nigerians to participate actively in future economic opportunities.

The SERAS award jury recognized this long-term commitment to sustainable development through technology. The accolade places Airtel’s social impact initiatives alongside other leading corporate sustainability efforts in Africa.
