betPawa Triumphs at Corporate Run, Contributes to Maternal Health Initiative
Sports betting company betPawa celebrated a double victory at the inaugural Corporate Run, held on 13th October 2024 at Dove Stadium in Luzira. The event, organized by Corporate Games Limited, aimed to raise awareness and funds to support maternal health care services across Uganda.
Supporting Maternal Health Through Sport
The Corporate Run, under the theme “Run for Expectant Mothers,” sought to address the challenges of maternal and infant mortality by raising funds to improve health care for expectant mothers.
betPawa’s men’s and women’s teams, led by local partner Allan Tumushabe, took first place in the five-kilometre races.
Tumushabe emphasized the importance of the cause, stating:
“Our employees gave it their all in both the race and spreading the message on the need to assist our mothers get improved health care during delivery.”
Raising Funds for Maternal Health
The event set a goal to raise UGX 100 million to provide 1,000 maternity kits to four major health centres in Eastern and Northern Uganda.
A total of UGX 32.5 million was raised, with betPawa contributing UGX 10 million towards the effort.
The funds will go towards the procurement of maternity kits, a crucial step in improving maternal health services in the country.
The Impact of betPawa’s Involvement
Ivy Igunduura, betPawa’s Country Marketing Manager, highlighted the significance of their involvement in the initiative, noting, “Every year, at least 95% of maternal deaths occur in low to lower-middle-income countries, most of which are preventable. Supporting this cause is our way of joining the effort to reduce these deaths and giving back to the community that believes in our brand.”
A Step Towards Health Care Improvements
Corporate Games Ltd Chairman, Ian Rumanyika, thanked all participants and stressed the potential of sport to drive social change.
He emphasized that the Corporate Run is just the beginning of many initiatives aimed at enhancing critical health care services in Uganda.
With the funds raised, the event will provide much-needed maternity kits to expectant mothers, furthering efforts to improve maternal health care and reduce preventable deaths during childbirth.
