Botswana Launches Nationwide Study to Tackle Problem Gambling
The Gambling Authority of Botswana has embarked on an ambitious mission to better understand gambling behaviors across the country. This newly launched research initiative aims to uncover the extent of problem gambling among residents and lay the foundation for robust responsible gambling strategies.

Exploring Gambling Trends Across Communities
To conduct this critical study, the authority has partnered with Integrated Research Hub (Pty) Ltd., a well-regarded local consultancy. A team of trained interviewers will visit selected households nationwide to gather real insights into gambling habits. These face-to-face interviews are designed to provide accurate data that reflects the realities of gambling in Botswana.
The authority has reassured residents about the authenticity of its efforts.
“We appeal to communities to cooperate with our teams during this study. Interviewers will be identifiable by Gambling Authority branded t-shirts and caps/hats, as well as their national and work IDs,” they said in a statement marking the program’s launch.
Prioritizing Trust and Transparency
Recognizing the importance of trust, the Gambling Authority has taken steps to ensure transparency. Interviewers will wear official attire and carry visible identification cards, making it easy for residents to verify their credentials.
For additional reassurance, any concerns about the study’s authenticity can be directed to Malebogo Lepere at the Gambling Authority via phone (+267 395 7672) or email (mlepere@gamblingauthority.co.bw).
Building a Safer Gambling Environment
This initiative is a testament to the Gambling Authority’s commitment to fostering a gambling industry that is both safe and sustainable. By addressing the challenges posed by problem gambling, the authority aims to support a more balanced and regulated industry, benefiting communities and businesses alike.
This comprehensive study is expected to deliver valuable insights that will shape future policies and programs, reinforcing Botswana’s position as a leader in responsible gambling efforts.
