East Africa Backs Digital Tools for Small Business Growth
Kenya has emphasized digital and green transformation as essential for small business growth at a major regional trade fair. The focus was on practical steps to help micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) scale across borders.

A Strategic Path to Collective Prosperity
The 25th East African Community MSMEs Trade Fair hosted a ministerial roundtable. Kenya used the event to reaffirm its commitment to regional economic integration.
Mercy Wanjau set the context for the panel on Digital and Green Transformation. She stated that regional integration is a shared pathway toward collective prosperity, not just a policy goal. The discussions involved representatives from EAC partner states, the AfCFTA Secretariat, and the United Nations.
Building Resilient and Competitive Enterprises
The panel explored how MSMEs can utilize new technologies and sustainable practices. The goal is to enhance operational efficiency and increase revenue. This approach aims to build more resilient businesses capable of expanding internationally. Wanjau drew from her experience in digitizing government services. She noted that similar technological shifts could empower small businesses to improve operations and seize new opportunities.
The talks underscored the need to develop regional value chains. This development is crucial for boosting the competitiveness of East African MSMEs in global markets.
