First Pan-African Responsible Gambling Conference Scheduled for September 24
Africa’s gaming industry will convene for its inaugural continent-wide responsible gambling conference on September 24, 2025. The half-day online event, titled “Safer Gaming for Africa,” represents the first coordinated effort to address gambling harm prevention across multiple African jurisdictions. The conference brings together regulators, operators, community organizations, and international experts from South, East, and West African regions to develop comprehensive player protection strategies.

Multi-Regional Collaboration Addresses Gaming Harm Prevention
The conference program includes an opening address by Bashir Are, CEO of Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority. A keynote presentation will examine gambling harm specifically within the South African context. Panel discussions will explore differences between responsible gambling approaches and problem gambling responses across various African regulatory frameworks. Workshop sessions focus on identifying and overcoming barriers to safer gaming implementation.
GambleAwareNG, a not-for-profit organization based in Abuja, anchors the conference coordination. Partner organizations include Gamblepause Initiative Africa, South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, Responsible Gambling Kenya, GAMINGWEEK, and GamCare Uganda. This collaborative approach reflects growing recognition of gambling harm as a regional concern requiring coordinated responses across different jurisdictions and regulatory environments.
Technical Innovation Supports Harm Reduction Initiatives
The conference agenda includes a technical showcase featuring the launch of the AHA MINAKI App, designed to support gambling harm prevention efforts. Participants gain access to current research findings and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing opportunities. The event promotes collaboration between charitable organizations, regulatory bodies, and grassroots advocacy groups working on gambling harm reduction across the continent.
Sessions emphasize practical implementation strategies rather than theoretical discussions alone. The conference structure facilitates direct engagement between different stakeholder groups, including community advocates, industry operators, and regulatory officials. This multi-sector approach aims to develop sustainable frameworks for responsible gambling practices that account for diverse economic conditions and regulatory environments across African gaming markets.
