Strategic Exchange During Binational Meeting
At the 2nd Binational Commission held in Maseru on April 22–23, representatives from the Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) and the Lesotho Casino Board held talks focused on regulatory cooperation in the gambling sector. The meeting aimed to improve institutional coordination and promote the exchange of operational standards between the two jurisdictions.
Karabo Mbele, CEO of the Gauteng Gambling Board, presented an overview of South Africa’s regulatory model, underlining the importance of implementing legislation effectively and maintaining compliance. She emphasized that these elements are essential for ensuring oversight and governance in the gambling industry.
Ongoing Dialogue on Shared Regulatory Priorities
Both authorities highlighted the need for continued engagement to address shared regulatory challenges. Areas of mutual interest include licensing procedures, supervision mechanisms, and policy alignment.
Although no formal agreements were announced, the meeting is part of a broader effort to strengthen regional cooperation and support the development of consistent regulatory practices across Southern Africa.
