Ghana FA Confirms Ongoing Partnership with betPawa
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has confirmed that its partnership with betPawa will continue, even after the betting company decided to withdraw as the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League.
Sponsorship Withdrawal Sparks Financial Concerns
The decision by betPawa to withdraw as the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League during the 2023/24 season raised concerns about the league’s financial stability. The company had initially signed a deal to be the main sponsor, aiming to increase the league’s visibility and financial backing.
Despite the sponsorship withdrawal, GFA President Kurt Okraku reassured stakeholders that the relationship between the GFA and betPawa remains strong. “Our partnership with betPawa is in full force,” Okraku stated, emphasizing that their collaboration continues, albeit in a different capacity than originally planned.
Okraku also noted that the GFA is actively exploring new avenues for collaboration with betPawa. “At the minute, we are engaging betPawa to support us in other areas,” he mentioned during his address, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain and possibly expand the partnership.
Potential Support for Women’s Premier League
In particular, the GFA is in discussions with betPawa to extend their support to the Women’s Premier League. “We are also currently engaging them to include players from our Women’s Premier League,” Okraku revealed, signaling a strategic move towards promoting gender equality in Ghanaian football.
As the new Ghana Premier League season approaches, set to commence on September 6, the GFA remains committed to leveraging its partnership with betPawa to support the development of both men’s and women’s football in Ghana. Despite the recent sponsorship changes, the association is optimistic about the future of this collaboration.
