Intermex Partners with Ghana’s Zeepay to Expand African Remittance Services
International Money Express has formed a strategic alliance with Ghanaian fintech company Zeepay to deliver money transfer services specifically tailored for African diaspora communities. The partnership marks a significant expansion into the African remittance corridor for the $430 million market cap company, which already facilitates transfers to over 60 countries globally.

Digital Platform Launches in Multiple Markets
The collaboration will leverage Intermex’s Wire-as-a-Service technology platform to enable money transfers across Africa. Initial services will target Africans living in the United States before expanding to serve diaspora communities throughout Europe. Zeepay will operate through both digital channels and physical retail locations to reach customers across these markets.
Marcelo Theodoro, Chief Product, Marketing and Digital Officer at Intermex, described the partnership as advancing the company’s global expansion strategy. The arrangement positions Zeepay as the lead operator for Intermex’s African business operations, combining American fintech infrastructure with African market expertise.
Regulatory Framework Supports Cross-Border Operations
Zeepay brings established regulatory credentials to the partnership through its licensing with both the Bank of Ghana and the UK Financial Conduct Authority. This dual regulatory framework enables the company to operate across multiple jurisdictions while maintaining compliance standards. Andrew Takyi-Appiah, Director at Zeepay, stated the collaboration will advance financial inclusion through integrated digital and physical service channels.
The partnership unfolds as Intermex faces a pending acquisition by Western Union in a $500 million all-cash transaction. The deal, valued at $16.00 per share, awaits regulatory and shareholder approvals with completion expected by mid-2026.
