The Liberia Telecommunications Authority hosted a working session for the Smart Village Initiative at the FAO office, targeting gradual digitization of underserved communities. The initiative seeks to bridge digital gaps left by traditional service providers, improving technology access in rural areas. Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sekou Kromah praised organizers, highlighting the initiative’s role in expanding digital inclusion.

Pilot Projects Show Initial Results

Pilot projects currently operate in Forkolleh, Bong County and Gbanqueh, Nimba County. Wolobah Gbozee, Deputy Managing Director for Operations at LTC Mobile, stated pilot projects showed positive results. Upgrades and improvements remain ongoing according to project assessments.

The working session addressed three key objectives for implementation planning. These include allowing LTC Mobile to test the platform and gathering participant contributions for platform content. Developing a comprehensive plan to guide the initiative forward formed the third objective.

Multi-Ministry Collaboration Supports Implementation

Representatives from multiple ministries attended the session including Transport, Youth & Sports, Gender, Agriculture, Labour and Liberia Immigration Service. LTA was represented by Strategy Manager Chrim A. Robinson and Corporate Planning and Development Manager Kpanah Vivian Sao. The collaborative approach addresses connectivity challenges in rural Liberian communities.

The Smart Village Initiative targets areas traditionally underserved by telecommunications infrastructure. The framework aims to provide digital services supporting economic development and government service access. The pilot phase enables testing and refinement before broader national deployment across underserved regions.
