MTN Ghana’s Mobile Money service recorded 17.7 million active users by the third quarter of 2025. The platform added over 700,000 new users in the past year. Mobile Money revenue climbed 39.2% to $393 million, representing strong performance within MTN’s service portfolio.

Advanced Services Drive Revenue Growth

Advanced Mobile Money services jumped 62.9% to $128 million during the reporting period. Basic services rose 30%, reflecting changing user behavior patterns. The revenue breakdown indicates growing appetite for sophisticated digital finance tools beyond simple cash transfers.

Policy changes played a crucial role in platform expansion. The government removed the electronic levy that dampened transaction volumes. Authorities pushed to reduce cash-out transactions, encouraging customers to keep funds circulating within the digital system.

Network Investment Supports Service Expansion

MTN Ghana invested over $302 million in network expansion and IT upgrades this year. The company maintained 98.9% 4G population coverage, supporting 57.3% data traffic increase year-over-year. Infrastructure improvements extend coverage to communities with previously limited connectivity access.

Total service revenue grew 36.3% to $1.58 billion during the period. Data revenue surged 46.8% to $851 million, accounting for more than half of total service revenue. Voice revenue managed 9.3% growth to $265 million despite gradual shifts toward internet-based calls. Digital entertainment services more than doubled to $29.7 million driven by streaming video, gaming, and digital content demand. Profit after tax increased 45.9% to $503 million. EBITDA grew 41.6% to $933 million, achieving a margin of 58.4%.
