MTN South Africa has become the first operator worldwide to achieve Autonomous Network Level 4 certification in the IP network domain. Meanwhile, the TM Forum issued the certification, highlighting MTN’s leadership in implementing fully autonomous network capabilities.

Intelligent Network Solution Enables Closed-Loop Operations

The implementation utilized Huawei’s iMaster NCE-IP Network Digital Map and NetMaster Network Agent technologies. Therefore, MTN South Africa implemented end-to-end autonomous closed-loop functions encompassing intent awareness and intelligent analysis. Moreover, the system includes decision simulation and automated execution capabilities. Consequently, the autonomous network evolution allows planning, anticipating, and resolving issues before they impact users.

TM Forum conducted the Autonomous Network Levels assessment in collaboration with industry partners. Meanwhile, the AN L4 evaluation assessed MTN South Africa’s capabilities in network congestion and path interruption optimization. Additionally, the company received the highest grade, “Grade A,” across all dimensions of the GB1059C v1.1.0 standard. Therefore, the certification validates superior technical implementation of autonomous network management systems.

African Innovation Sets Global Network Performance Standards

The recognition reflects MTN’s continued investment in cutting-edge technology, ensuring reliable and intelligent network operations. Meanwhile, automation and intelligence are redefining network performance standards globally. Moreover, MTN South Africa’s achievement showcases how African innovation and collaboration can set new benchmarks. Therefore, the certification positions the operator as a global leader in autonomous network deployment.

Huawei remains committed to empowering networks with AI technologies through collaboration with MTN South Africa. Additionally, the partnership delivers sustained value to customers while accelerating intelligent evolution of next-generation networks. Consequently, the Level 4 certification demonstrates practical implementation of advanced network automation in African telecommunications infrastructure. Therefore, the achievement establishes MTN South Africa as a reference model for autonomous network capabilities globally.
