Namibia’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology activated the first network tower under the Universal Service Fund in Epinga, Omundaungilo Constituency, Ohangwena Region. The infrastructure provides 4G broadband data and voice services to previously unconnected communities. Local residents and public institutions including Shimbode Primary School and Epinga Clinic now access telecommunications services.

Rural Connectivity Expansion Targets Digital Divide

The USF initiative aims to deliver reliable connectivity to underserved and remote areas lacking telecommunication coverage. The government positions digital access as essential for all Namibians to participate in national digital progress. The tower installation represents infrastructure development prioritizing rural community inclusion.

The project forms part of ongoing government efforts expanding digital access across Namibia. The framework addresses connectivity gaps in areas traditionally excluded from telecommunications networks. Public institutions benefit from improved communications supporting education and healthcare service delivery.

Social and Economic Development Goals Advanced

The Epinga tower launch reinforces government commitment to inclusive digital development in rural regions. The infrastructure supports social and economic empowerment objectives for previously disconnected communities. The Universal Service Fund model provides a framework for continued expansion into additional underserved areas across Namibia.
