Safaricom M-PESA Contributes $596 Million in Half-Year Revenue
Safaricom PLC reported M-PESA contributed 45.4% of Kenya service revenue, reaching $1.31 billion for the half year ended September 2025. The mobile money platform generated $596 million during the period with 37.9 million monthly active customers. Service revenue in Kenya grew 9.3% driven by continued M-PESA expansion and innovation.

Transaction Volume Reaches 21.9 Billion
M-PESA processed 21.9 billion transactions during the six-month period, with total value reaching $137 billion. Over 13.2 billion transactions were conducted under the free M-PESA Kadogo band. The platform maintains double-digit growth trajectory across user base and transaction metrics.
Ethiopian operations recorded 8.6 million active monthly customers with 84.74 million transactions worth $79.5 million. Merchant activity in Kenya grew significantly, with 2.4 million M-PESA merchants operating. This includes 0.9 million Lipa Na M-PESA business tills and 1.5 million micro-merchants using Pochi La Biashara.
Digital Credit Access Expands
Merchant payment value rose 15.1% to $8.12 billion during the reporting period. Lipa Na M-PESA processed $6.77 billion, while Pochi La Biashara handled $1.35 billion. Total merchant transaction volume grew 55.7% to 3.1 billion, reflecting increased digital payment reliance.
M-PESA enabled over 9.5 million customers to access more than $5.26 billion in loans. Fuliza overdrafts totaled $4.26 billion, helping customers complete transactions with insufficient funds. The M-PESA Super App recorded 5.8 million customers and 347,000 businesses using the platform monthly.
Customers conducted over 624 million Super App transactions valued at $9.68 billion. Businesses processed $3.47 billion through the platform during the period. Safaricom plans unifying M-PESA and telco services into a single application, with new credit, savings, and insurance innovations forthcoming.
