SportPesa Expands Its Influence in Kenyan Football
SportPesa, online sports betting website, has made an important move by securing a 75 million sponsorship deal with Shabana FC, one of the teams in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League. The sponsorship, set to last for three seasons, will begin with the 2024/25 campaign, which kicks off on August 24. This marks SportPesa’s third major club partnership in the league, joining their existing deals with Gor Mahia and Murang’a Seal.
Unveiling the Partnership
The announcement of the partnership was made during a ceremony attended by the club’s patron, Hon. Simba Arati, the Governor of Kisii. This deal highlights SportPesa’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of football in Kenya.
Bernard Chauro, Head of Operations at SportPesa, emphasized the company’s long-standing dedication to partnerships, stating that Shabana FC’s passionate fan base and ambitious goals made the club a natural fit for the sponsorship.
Chauro remarked, “We have been in this game for a while, and going forward, the Shabana management, players, and fans should know that they have a reliable partner who can guarantee to walk the journey with them.”
Governor Simba Arati also expressed his gratitude towards SportPesa for their investment in Shabana FC. He stressed the importance of managing the sponsorship funds responsibly to avoid internal disputes. “To the management, please let us keep this money safe from vultures who will walk in and try to bring a lot of fights,” he said, underscoring the significance of careful financial oversight within the club.
Shabana FC Prepares for the Upcoming Season
With this new sponsorship in place, Shabana FC has been making strategic preparations for the upcoming season. Several key players, including Elvis Osok, Titus Achesa, and Kevin Omundi, have been signed to strengthen the squad. These new additions are set to help the team compete at a higher level as they aim for a successful season, beginning with their opening match against Bidco United at Thika Stadium.
The sponsorship, along with a bolstered roster, positions Shabana FC for potential success in the Kenyan football scene. The club, backed by one of the most influential names in the gaming industry, is now poised to compete not only domestically but also potentially at continental levels.
