Tanzania’s gambling sector will generate $7.37 million in 2025, driven by a mobile-first population where sports betting commands 63 percent market dominance. The East African nation expects 39.5 million active players by year-end, representing over half the country’s population.

Football Drives Digital Gaming Growth

Sports betting maintains its position as Tanzania’s primary gaming activity, with football attracting the majority of wagers. Local league matches and international tournaments fuel consistent betting volume across mobile platforms. Basketball, rugby, and tennis are expanding their betting markets as mobile access increases nationwide.

The Tanzania iGaming Market Research Report 2025 projects annual growth of 9.02 percent through 2030, reaching approximately $11.34 million. Over 75 percent of players fall within the 18-34 age bracket. Mobile money integration enables seamless transactions for the country’s predominantly young user base.

Mobile Infrastructure Expands Market Access

Online betting accounts for more than 70 percent of all wagering activity in Tanzania. The $150 million World Bank-funded Digital Tanzania initiative provides affordable high-speed internet across previously underserved regions. This infrastructure development creates opportunities for operators targeting mobile-first consumers.

Online casino games hold 20 percent market share, followed by poker at 10 percent and esports at 7 percent. Popular casino offerings include slots, blackjack, roulette, and baccarat variants. Esports titles like PUBG Mobile represent the fastest-growing segment among Tanzania’s connected youth population.
