Uganda Opens 2026 Gaming License Renewals with Stricter AML Requirements
Uganda’s gambling regulator has launched the 2026 license renewal period with enhanced compliance demands. New casino operators must now register with the Financial Intelligence Authority and submit annual anti-money laundering reports before receiving approval.
Enhanced Financial Controls Target New Market Entrants
The regulatory board introduced additional requirements for operators launching new games or casinos. These businesses must provide detailed game rules and demonstrate compliance with anti-money laundering standards. The board stated that false documentation will result in disqualification and prosecution.
All gaming operators must submit tax clearance certificates, audited financial statements, and business plans for 2026. The National Information Technology Authority certification became mandatory to verify data security systems meet national standards.
Physical Inspections and Equipment Monitoring Expand
Licensed premises require pre-licensing inspections confirming minimum space requirements of 30 square meters. Facilities must prevent minor access and maintain locations at least 100 meters from schools, markets, and religious buildings.
Electronic gaming machines need connection to the National Central Electronic Monitoring System for real-time tracking. The board committed to processing all applications within 60 days.
